Check The Witcher 3 Remastered PC requirements, Windows 11 and SSD rules, release details and what the free upgrade includes.
29.09.2026Short answer: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered requires Windows 11, DirectX 12 and an SSD on PC. The verified minimum specification lists an Intel Core i5-8400 or AMD Ryzen 5 2600, 12 GB of RAM, an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 or AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT 8 GB, at least 6 GB of VRAM and 70 GB of SSD space. CD PROJEKT RED no longer supports an HDD installation or Windows 10 for the remastered release.
The Witcher 3 has already received a major next-generation update, but the Remastered release is a more demanding modern edition. That distinction matters when checking old requirement charts: a PC that runs the original 2015 game, or even the 2022 next-gen build at modest settings, is not automatically supported by Remastered.
This guide separates the confirmed launch requirements from speculation. The official support policy, release information and linked Epinpay listings were checked on September 29, 2026. Performance can still vary with resolution, ray tracing, background software, drivers and the exact model of each component.
| Component | Confirmed minimum | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 11 64-bit | Windows 10 is no longer tested or supported |
| Processor | Intel Core i5-8400 or AMD Ryzen 5 2600 | Six-core-class baseline |
| Graphics | GeForce GTX 1660 or Radeon RX 5500 XT 8 GB | DirectX 12-capable card with active driver support |
| Video memory | 6 GB VRAM | Integrated graphics are unlikely to meet the target |
| System memory | 12 GB RAM | 16 GB is a more practical modern configuration |
| Storage | 70 GB SSD | Hard drives are not supported |
| Graphics API | DirectX 12 | The older DirectX 11 path is not the launch baseline |
These are minimum requirements, not a promise of maximum settings, high-refresh-rate performance or ray tracing. A minimum-spec PC should be treated as the entry point for running the game with conservative settings.
Windows 10 reached the end of Microsoft’s general support lifecycle, and CD PROJEKT RED says it is no longer testing the remastered game on that operating system. The studio’s support guidance therefore moves the minimum to 64-bit Windows 11. The game may start on an unsupported configuration, but that is not the same as official compatibility.
Before upgrading the operating system, check whether the motherboard supports TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot, update the BIOS if the manufacturer recommends it, and back up important files. A Windows upgrade will not compensate for a graphics card below the DirectX 12 or VRAM requirement.
The remaster no longer supports installation on a mechanical hard drive. An SSD can stream world data much faster, reduce long asset-loading delays and help prevent traversal from being interrupted by a storage bottleneck. The requirement is 70 GB, but keeping extra free space is sensible for updates, temporary installation files and shader caches.
A SATA SSD satisfies the basic storage type far better than an HDD; an NVMe drive offers more headroom. If the launcher is installed on one drive and the game on another, it is the game’s installation drive that must be the SSD.
If one component is below the minimum, lowering resolution may not solve the problem. Insufficient VRAM can cause texture problems, an unsupported CPU can create severe frame-time spikes, and an HDD remains outside the supported configuration regardless of graphics settings.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered released on September 29, 2026. It includes the base adventure and the existing Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine expansions. Owners of eligible PC versions on GOG, Steam and Epic receive the remastered upgrade without buying the base game again.
Always inspect the storefront account that owns the game. A free technical upgrade does not transfer a license between Steam, GOG, Epic, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo. CD PROJEKT RED has also announced Songs of the Past for 2027, so that future expansion should not be confused with content already included at launch.
Start with the preset recommended by the game, then test a busy settlement and an outdoor area instead of judging performance from a quiet interior. Resolution scaling, ray-traced effects, foliage visibility, shadow quality and crowd density usually deserve attention before texture quality.
The most visually impressive preset is not automatically the best experience. Consistent frame pacing during combat and horse travel matters more than a screenshot-friendly option that causes repeated stutter.
Wallet note: The linked Epinpay products add Steam Wallet balance; they are not Witcher 3 keys, hardware upgrades or guaranteed access to a specific edition. Match the code currency and regional conditions to the intended Steam account.
The minimum lists Windows 11, an Intel Core i5-8400 or Ryzen 5 2600, 12 GB RAM, a GTX 1660 or RX 5500 XT 8 GB, 6 GB VRAM, DirectX 12 and 70 GB on an SSD.
Windows 10 is not officially supported or tested for the remastered release. The confirmed minimum operating system is 64-bit Windows 11.
Yes. The PC version requires 70 GB of SSD storage, and CD PROJEKT RED says mechanical hard drives are no longer supported.
Eligible owners on GOG, Steam, Epic, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S receive the remastered upgrade without rebuying the base game. A license does not transfer between storefronts.
Yes. The remastered package includes the base game plus Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine. Songs of the Past is a separate expansion planned for 2027.
No. A Steam Wallet code adds compatible account balance. It does not activate The Witcher 3 automatically or upgrade unsupported PC hardware.
