Mobile Legends S42 Patch Notes: September 16 Update Explained
Explore MLBB Season 42 patch notes, including Masha and Bruno revamps, hero balance changes, ranked rewards and system updates.
22.09.2026Short answer: Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Season 42, Starward Decade, began on September 16, 2026 with Original Server Patch 2.2.16. The update completely rebuilds Masha’s combat loop, overhauls Bruno’s Powerball controls, updates the artwork of eight established heroes, adjusts more than twenty heroes, adds Multiplayer Training Camp and introduces new ranked rewards. One important correction: the previewed anniversary battlefield mechanics were not all part of the September 16 live patch.
MLBB’s tenth-anniversary season is more than a cosmetic refresh. Patch 2.2.16 changes how two popular heroes are controlled, gives several underperforming EXP Lane and Jungle picks stronger tools and starts a new ranked climb with fresh seasonal rewards.
This guide focuses on the Original Server changes players could use after the September 16 update. Details were checked on September 22, 2026 against the official Mobile Legends patch notes and first-party season announcements. Advance Server tests and promotional previews are identified separately because their mechanics and release dates can change.
MLBB Season 42 Update at a Glance
| Feature | What changed | Player impact |
|---|---|---|
| Season 42 | Starward Decade began September 16 | Rank reset and new seasonal rewards |
| Masha | New Feral and Wound-based kit | Relearn combos and sustained-fight timing |
| Bruno | Powerball, dash and Ultimate overhaul | More reliable movement and team-fight setup |
| Hero balance | Buffs, nerfs and adjustments across the roster | EXP Lane and Jungle priorities may shift |
| Training | Multiplayer Training Camp added | Test interactions with up to ten players |
| Battlefield | Four previous annual map effects removed | Do not confuse upcoming previews with live mechanics |
Masha Revamp: From Split-Push Assassin to Feral Brawler
Masha received the most extensive gameplay rebuild. She still has three HP bars and dies only after the final bar is depleted, but her identity now revolves around building Feral, creating a Wound and attacking that wound from the correct direction.
Her new passive, Primal Pact, builds Feral when she damages heroes or creeps. Outside combat, that resource converts into HP. Skill damage marks a target with a Wound; striking the mark with a Basic Attack triggers the Feral state. Her next three Basic Attacks then become wide claw swings while she gains Resilience, Attack Speed and Movement Speed.
- Feral Swipe: sends energy forward, deals Physical Damage and slows enemy heroes.
- Claw Strike: dashes in the chosen direction and performs a wide strike at maximum range or after colliding with a non-minion target. Its cooldown resets whenever Masha loses one life bar.
- Savage Maul: charges a target hero, damages and stuns them, then knocks nearby enemies away.
The practical change is positioning. Old habits built around isolated burst and split pushing are no longer enough. New Masha wants to create the Wound, approach from its vulnerable direction and use the Feral window to stay dangerous during a longer skirmish. Players should test the targeting angle and HP-bar reset interaction before taking her directly into ranked play.
Bruno Revamp: Easier Powerball Control
Bruno keeps his identity as a critical-damage Marksman, but the update removes much of the friction around collecting and redirecting Powerballs. Volley Shot’s landing distance now scales with Movement Speed, and the ball remains on the ground for three seconds instead of two. Multiple Powerballs can be retrieved separately, casting no longer interrupts Basic Attacks and a ball should not land beyond a wall.
His movement boost now activates when he kicks the Powerball and decays over time. This makes the speed reward more closely connected to successful ball control instead of waiting for damage to register.
Slide now follows the joystick direction more naturally and grants a Powerball when the movement ends. Its direct damage was removed, the stun was shortened and its early cooldown and mana cost increased, so it should be treated primarily as pursuit or escape mobility.
Worldie is clearer as a ranged initiation tool. The first target receives a brief stun and strong decaying slow, while the ball prioritizes enemy heroes as it bounces. The old Physical Defense reduction is gone. Its damage was lowered to compensate for the more dependable control and targeting.
Which Eight Heroes Received Anniversary Updates?
| Hero | Update type | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Masha | Full gameplay and visual revamp | Feral, Wounds and directional attacks |
| Bruno | Mechanics, controls and visual revamp | Powerball landing and Slide direction |
| Paquito | Art overhaul | New model and effects |
| Kadita | Art overhaul | Updated model and skill presentation |
| Clint | Art overhaul | Animations and visual clarity |
| Luo Yi | Art overhaul | Modernized model and effects |
| Brody | Art overhaul | Model, portrait and presentation |
| Badang | Art overhaul | Textures, model and effects |
Only Masha and Bruno require major mechanical relearning. The other six names in the table received the anniversary art treatment rather than entirely new kits. Cosmetic modernization should not be described as an automatic buff.
Major Hero Buffs and Adjustments
The designers specifically targeted underperforming Junglers and EXP Laners. Exact values matter for competitive builds, but these are the changes most likely to affect ordinary matches:
- Aulus: reaches his enhanced Basic Attack state more directly, gains healing from empowered hits and can stun with the first cast of Skill 2. Some base growth and Ultimate damage were reduced to balance the stronger loop.
- Argus: gains an initial Critical Chance mechanic, can trigger Demonic Slash more frequently and receives a stronger counterattack window through Skill 2 and his Ultimate.
- Aldous: gains better early mobility and more ways to collect Soul Steal stacks. The stack cap rises, while damage per individual stack falls, shifting his growth curve rather than providing a simple unconditional buff.
- Lukas: gains Resolve and lane sustain more effectively, while parts of his jungle and Ultimate performance are restrained.
- Odette: can move freely at reduced speed while channeling her Ultimate instead of relying on a second cast.
- Sun and Marcel: receive targeted adjustments designed to reduce unhealthy resource use or early pressure while preserving their defining mechanics.
- Kalea: receives stronger damage, survivability and more frequent Skill 1 access to support her Fighter-Support role.
Several Marksmen and other high-performing heroes were also toned down. Instead of copying an old build unchanged, review every skill description and test the first item power spike. A patch that changes movement, control or stack generation can invalidate a familiar rotation even when the recommended equipment looks similar.
Season 42 Ranked Rewards
Season 41 ended at 21:59:59 server time on September 15, and Season 42 began at 00:00 on September 16. Completing the required ranked matches during Starward Decade can unlock the Popol and Kupa “Flamehide Thane” seasonal skin and the Starward Decade avatar border.
The ranked reset does not erase owned heroes, skins or Diamonds. It changes the competitive starting position according to the game’s seasonal reset rules. Review the rank displayed in the client rather than relying on a generic reset chart, especially if the developers apply a server-side correction.
Training, Shop and Mode Changes
Multiplayer Training Camp is one of the most useful practical additions. Open Mode, choose VS A.I. & Custom, then select Multiplayer Training Camp. It provides a controlled environment for testing revamped skills, interactions and coordinated scenarios with other players before risking ranked points.
The Shop interface was also simplified. Special, Preparation and Fragments were merged into an Other tab. The related items and purchase methods did not change simply because their navigation location moved.
Brawl received its own hero-specific balance pass, separate from standard battlefield balance. A percentage modifier listed for Brawl should not be assumed to apply in Ranked or Classic. Khufra was also temporarily disabled in Chaos Clash because of a mode-specific bug.
Important Map Update Correction
What was actually live on September 16: Patch 2.2.16 removed Broken Walls, Dangerous Grass, Flying Cloud and Expanding Rivers. The official notes said no annual map changes would be available temporarily. Promotional previews for anniversary battlefield features such as Revealing Wisps, Golden Turrets and a Healing Turtle should therefore not be presented as if all were active on the first day of S42.
This distinction matters for strategy guides. Planning a rotation around a previewed objective that is not yet enabled can lose a match. Confirm the current battlefield description inside the mode-selection screen and read later official announcements before adapting objective timing.
What to Do Before Your First S42 Ranked Match
- Download all required resources and restart the client after updating.
- Open the hero page for your main pick and read every highlighted skill change.
- Test Masha, Bruno or another adjusted hero in Multiplayer Training Camp.
- Check whether your targeting and control preferences changed after the patch.
- Update your equipment presets instead of accepting an older recommendation automatically.
- Play a Classic match before ranked if your hero’s movement, control or damage timing changed.
